Bioplastics

I've heard a lot about bioplastics, most of it not flattering. Although they theoretically biodegrade in landfill conditions, the practical reality in the vast majority of US landfills is that the surface is not exposed for long before it is covered over with more material. This means if heat, sunlight, and moisture are required to compost the material, at least one of those ingredients ain't makin' it to the party.

I've also heard they take a tremendous amount of energy and water to produce and have also heard the criticism that many of them are made from GMO plants. Doh!
